Our investment is aimed at the private sector, as the engine of growth. The scarcity of long term risk capital, particularly equity capital, is one of the factors which constrains the private sector in the developing world.

We aim to achieve:

• A direct economic impact by providing funding for successful companies

• An indirect impact by demonstrating the benefits of successful investment to other capital providers

We require all our fund managers to subscribe to our best practice policy covering health and safety, environmental, social and governance issues.

CDC has assets of £1.6bn (US$2.8bn). Its purpose is to stimulate economic growth by investing successfully in the private sector.	We place our funds with skilled and experienced private equity fund managers in our target markets. We expect our managers to achieve returns which are appropriate to the opportunities and risks in the relevant market.	Fund managers deploy CDC's capital in profitable private sector companies, across a range of sectors.	Successful companies stimulate economic growth which reduces poverty.
